Church History

Founded in 1798

For over two hundred years, almost from the beginning of the settlement of Galway, Baptists have been gathering at our church to worship. At it's founding in 1789, we were originally named the Second Baptist Church of Galway. In the 1960's, we had our name changed to the Bible Baptist Church of Galway as a compromise between an elder and a new pastor who wanted to change the name to the Galway Bible Church.

In our antebellum meeting house (built in 1830s or 1840s) you cannot help but sense a connection with the past, which is as it ought to be, as we preach from the Bible the faith once delivered unto the saints. We hold to timeless truths! Salvation is found in Christ alone! Yet we are not shy about using contemporary means such as this website to share the good news about Christ to our friends and neighbors.

The following history of the Bible Baptist Church of Galway consists of two lectures given by Pastor Wayne Brandow on the occasion of the church's 215 Anniversary (1789-2004). (Pictures & footnotes to follow).

The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches. (Matthew 13:31-32)
